About “Badariya”

In Indian tradition, the monsoon is much more than a season it is a living emotion that touches every aspect of life, from agriculture and celebration to poetry and prayer. Clouds (Megh) have long symbolized prosperity, renewal, and divine connection. The richness of this season is reflected in our festivals, folk songs, classical music, and ancient literature most notably in Kalidasa’s Meghdootam, where monsoon clouds become messengers of love and longing. Inspired by this deep cultural connection, Badariya meaning cloudy skies is a vibrant monsoon farewell festival that pays homage to India’s folk traditions. Organised by the Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation and supported by the Maithili-Bhojpuri Academy (Government of Delhi), the festival is a heartfelt celebration of the emotional, spiritual, and artistic essence of Varsha Ritu. Badariya brings together Padma awardees, classical virtuosos, folk performers, and rising artists for an immersive showcase of music, dance, storytelling, and heritage. With Maithili and Bhojpuri at its core, the event reflects the beauty of eastern India’s cultural roots, while inviting all communities to connect with the timeless spirit of rural traditions. Through curated performances, traditional exhibitions, and community participation, Badariya aims to revive and preserve our living heritage, offering an inspiring cultural experience to urban audiences. It is a poetic celebration of rain, rhythm, and remembrance a space where clouds may fade, but the melodies and memories linger on.
